The blindfolded lady with a sword unsheathed represents justice, fair justice to all, unfairness to none... -Chief Justice Reynaldo PunoJudges 1-21 `Real heroes are hard to find these days. Modern research and the media have made the foibles and weaknesses of our leaders very apparent; we search in vain for men and women to emulate. Judges is the Bible Chapter about heroes - 12 men and women who delivered Israel from its oppressors. These judges were not perfect; in fact, they included an assassin, a sexually promiscuous man, and a person who broke all the laws of hospitality. But they were submissive to God, and God used them.'

We cannot regard truth as a goal of inquiry. The purpose of inquiry is to achieve agreement among human beings about what to do, to bring about consensus on the ends to be achieved and the means to be used to achieve those ends. Inquiry that does not achieve coordination of behavior is not inquiry, but simply wordplay."... - Richard Rorty Pragmatist American Modernist Philosopher and Stanford Prof of Critical Literature

Notes from Spanish Jesuit Aphorist Baltazar Gracian-Ch113- "In times of prosperity prepare for adversity. It is both wiser and easier to collect winter stores in summer. In prosperity favors are cheap and friends are many. It is well therefore to save them for more unlucky days, for adversity costs dear and has no helpers. Retain a store of friends and people who are in your debt- the day may come when their price will go up. Lowly minds never have friends-in luck they will not recognize them, in misfortune they will not be recognized by them."Proverbs 13:14 "The advice of the wise is like a life giving fountain; those who accept it avoid the snares of death."

I watched, mesmerized, as power was transferred in the United Kingdom last Wednesday as Tony Blair stepped down as Prime Minister and Gordon Brown stepped up to the Post. No pomp, no pageantry at the House of Commons whose members in their business suits put conscious effort at looking like the commoners they are supposed to be. No prepared speech, no valedictory, but a tribute in a standing ovation from his colleagues at the end of the session. That was the manner the end of an era was marked. And celebrated. It was like a delicate dance. Quite exemplary even for a nation that has brilliantly blended tradition and change. This is democratic political theater at its best... Journalist Alex MagnoColossians 1:10 "And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light."
